# Passkeys

Source: https://coolify.io/docs/core/security/authentication/passkeys

A passkey lets you sign in with your device's fingerprint, face recognition, screen lock, or a security key. Each user registers passkeys for their own Coolify account from **Profile**.

A passkey sign-in does not ask for your Coolify password or a separate two-factor authentication code. Password, OAuth, and SSO sign-ins continue to use your configured [2FA](https://coolify.io/docs/core/security/authentication/2fa).

## Before you begin

* Use a browser and device that support passkeys.
* Open Coolify on its configured HTTPS domain. An IP address is not supported. `localhost` is supported for local development.
* On a self-hosted instance, an instance administrator must leave **Settings > Advanced > Access > Passkeys** set to **Enabled**.

Passkeys are tied to the instance domain. After changing the domain, sign in through another available method and register new passkeys on the new domain.

## Add a passkey

1. Sign in to Coolify, open the user menu, and select **Profile**.
2. Under **Passkeys**, select **Add passkey**.
3. Complete the account confirmation if requested. An existing passkey can be used through **Confirm with a passkey** when available.
4. Enter a **Passkey name** that identifies the device or security key, then select **Create passkey**.
5. Follow the browser's prompt to save the passkey.

The passkey appears in your profile with its authenticator, creation time, and last-used time. Add another passkey if you want a second device or security key available for sign-in.

Open the same instance domain where you registered the passkey. Select the passkey sign-in control on the login page and complete your device's authentication prompt. Supported browsers may also offer a passkey through the email field's autofill menu.

Keep another available sign-in method so you can access the account if your device or passkey is unavailable.

## Rename or delete a passkey

Open **Profile > Passkeys**.

* Select **Rename**, enter the new name, and select **Save**.
* Select **Delete**, review the action, enter the passkey name, and complete the confirmation.

Deleting a passkey prevents it from signing in to Coolify. It does not delete your account or change your password, OAuth, SSO, or authenticator setup.

## Disable passkeys for an instance

An instance administrator can set **Settings > Advanced > Access > Passkeys** to **Disabled**. Coolify keeps registered passkeys, but users cannot use or manage them while the feature is disabled. Re-enabling the setting makes the stored passkeys available again on the same domain.

## Troubleshooting

| Problem | Check |
| :---------------------------------------------------- | :--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Passkeys are missing from Profile or the login page | Ask the instance administrator to check the Passkeys setting. |
| Profile says passkeys are unavailable on this address | Use the configured HTTPS instance domain, with a valid certificate, instead of an IP address. |
| The browser cannot find a passkey | Confirm the domain, the browser's passkey provider, and access to the device or security key where you saved it. |
| Passkeys stopped working after a domain change | Use another sign-in method, then register new passkeys on the new domain. |
