Scheduled tasks overview

Scheduled tasks let Coolify run a command inside an application or service container on a recurring schedule. Use them for work such as framework schedulers, queue maintenance, cache cleanup, and recurring imports.

The short version

Add a task from an application's or service's Scheduled Tasks page. Choose the command, schedule, timeout, and target container. Coolify records the result and output of each run.

What a scheduled task contains

Each task has five main settings:

  • Name identifies the task in Coolify.
  • Command is the exact command Coolify runs inside the container.
  • Frequency controls when the command runs. It accepts a five-field cron expression or a supported named schedule.
  • Timeout limits how long one execution may run.
  • Container name selects where the command runs when the resource has more than one container.

Read Cron Syntax for supported fields, named schedules, and examples.

How a task runs

Scheduled tasks, database backups, volume backups, and Docker cleanups each have their own scheduler process that dispatches due work every minute. A busy queue or slow schedule type does not delay dispatch of the others.

Coolify evaluates the schedule in the timezone configured for the server that runs the resource. When the task is due, Coolify runs the command in a shell inside the selected running container.

A scheduled execution is skipped when the task is disabled, the application or service is not running, or the connected server is not functional. A task with multiple containers also needs the correct container or service name.

Fixed-time schedules run once when daylight saving time repeats an hour. One failing schedule does not prevent other due schedules from being dispatched.

After Coolify starts a command, Recent executions shows its status, start and end times, duration, and captured output.
